Fifty years of history. Fifty years of tens
of thousands of students that walked the
hallways of Bishops College. Over these
years the school has collected hundreds of
trophies, plaques, medals, certificates,
pictures and other memorabilia that marks
the great history of this school.
In January, 2009, a room on the first floor of the school was cleared out
and shelves, a desk and computer were set
up. Staff have items of interest and moved
to this room to be catalogued, preserved and
organized. As well application was made to
the Newfoundland and Labrador Archive
Association of which the school has recently
become a member.
This project, is administered by retired teacher, Bob Beauchamp, is
strongly supported by our staff and school
council. Bishops College understands the
importance and necessity for collecting
materials from the past and organizing them
in an archive so that people today may us
them in study. The past is always relevant
to the present and can inform our view,
answer our questions, as well as help point
us in the right direction. In this way
archives are an essential means of examining
the past and informing the future.
As part of this project the committee has digitized the 50 yearbooks
which are now available online for students,
alumni and members of the public to view.
Over the next few years we will be adding and archiving other school
memorabilia. If you would like to donate
pictures, trophies, or other artifacts to
the school archive please contact the school
office at 579-4107.
As part of the 50th Anniversary Celebrations
Bishops College officially opens and names
the “Bishops College Archive and Heritage
Project”.
